LSCA News and Updates

  • After Hurricane Irene and subsequent storms, there have been an unusual number of fish--especially smaller fish--that have gone belly up in our lake. We have been told that this is due to the unfortuante confluence of sediment washed into the lake and violent wave actions. Apparently, water choked with sediment particles is inhaled by fish as they swim and breathe. This uptake of small particles irritates the gill structure of fish and limits their capacity to absorb oxygen: the result is suffication.

  • We understand that hydro-raking has been suspended until next Spring. The existing permits will cover all previuosly approved properties. The contractor will contact all applicants as the contractor develops itsr revised plans.

  • As of August 2011.

Test results show all sections of the lake are lower than the maximum limit of 75 parts per billion (ppb) for dometsic use of water including drinking. The state now dropped its restrictions on domestic use and drinking of the water. Restrictions on use of lake water for irrgation are also still in effect. The maximum upper limit set by the state is 1

The Stae requires all waning signs to remain posted until every section of the entire lake system falls below 1 ppb--or until October 20, 2011.
