Hello LSC, some interesting and exciting loon news on this rainy Sunday!
Last evening, we received a report of a nesting loon on the Oxbow Bay side of the Island - thanks to Bob M. for the tip!
We took a quick trip over to confirm, and you could quickly see the a patch of black and white among the greens and browns of the shoreline:

So, this morning, we picked up 2 of the 5 loon nesting buoys that had been put in place in the Channel and placed them around the new nest at the island:

Thank you to Dawn & Joel for allowing us to use their dock to retrieve the buoys this morning.
As you may have seen in recent postings with amazing photos by Karen Velsor, the loons in the Channel seemed to be trying to figure things out, but Dawn reports that they have not been sitting at that nesting location. 3 nesting buoys are still in place around this nesting location in case they try nesting again.
It's hard to tell if this is a new loon pair at the Island, or if it's the same pair from the Channel. Anyone who has been at the lake the past few weeks has probably heard the almost nightly loon activity, so we've had lots of loons visiting the lake this spring.
We are letting you know about the new nest to ask that you please give this nesting pair some room, and to also ask that you please observe the no wake zone in Oxbow Bay. Boat wakes can potentially swamp the nest and wash the eggs into the lake.
Let's keep our fingers crossed for another loon chick this season at LSC!
